The story
colorFULL started in 2020, after years of lost motivation and inspiration with creating art, I decided I wanted to tap back into my creative side.
I’ve been drawing ever since I could hold a pencil. But something about flunking out of college and entering the workforce put me into an insanely long art block. 😭
My bright idea? Make some abstract art. 👩🏾🎨💡
Every time I tried to get back into art after taking long breaks I would get intimidated by the blank page, and sometimes if I was feeling daring, I would make something. But if you don’t use it, you lose it. Which is obvious, but it can be heartbreaking when you want to make something but your skills aren’t living up to you vision.
The only way to improve is practice. But how do I find motivation when everything I make is ugly? 🤔
I had to get the ball rolling. ☝🏾🤓
Something to get me started so I can baby step my way back into making art.
Abstract art can be freeing and meditative to make. The rules are what you make them. There’s no pressure to worry about anatomy, shading, perspective, etc. All the little technical things that can get you caught up and hyper analyzing your art. And the analyzing is a good trait to have, but if it’s preventing you from your goals, it’s time to take a step back and slow down.
I pulled out my barely used art supplies and began painting, getting messy and having fun (I did need to half-convince myself that I was indeed having fun).
I worked on this project on and off for the next 4 years. And in 2024 I finally pulled through and put most of the finishing touches on the book.
Currently it is available for digital download in the studio’s gift shop.
Unfortunately, there aren’t any affordable self publishing options at the moment, but I am looking for publishers to make the physical product a reality. 🌝
